Boston Neighborhood Details
South End
The South End is a very walkable neighborhood and does not require a car for transportation. Everything is located nearby. The Upton is the perfect corporate housing solution for professionals working in the South End or summer intern housing.
We have hosted hundreds of professionals ranging from academics at Boston University School of Medicine, dancers at Boston Ballet, producers at local production companies, and more. The South End’s historic charm, site seeing, restaurant scene, shopping, and central location make it the ideal place for a temporary relocation. The Upton is located a short walk from both Orange and Green line subway stations. The Orange line is located at Back Bay station which also is a hub for Amtrak, the Logan Express and commuter lines. The Upton is directly located on Tremont Street with bus routes, and a 5 minute walk from the Silver line on Washington Street. Tremont Street is lined with overhead street lighting. If you like to walk, you can get to most every corner of the city in under an hour.
Back Bay
Located minutes from The Upton, Back Bay neighborhood is a business and commercial region home to many of Boston’s landmarks such as Copley Square, the Prudential, Newbury Street, and more. Back Bay is a historic district but has malls and larger scale buildings that separate it from the South End. Many business travelers in Boston choose to stay at The Upton to have the luxuries and essentials of our short term apartments while ago being very close to Back Bay. Our location is also ideal for Northeastern academics, Northeastern summer housing, graduate students, and parents visiting students who would like to stay near the school but in an area with more happenings. There are many conference sites in Back Bay and staying at The Upton makes the commute easy for attendees. Back Bay is a quick few minute walk from The Upton depending on your exact destination. You can anticipate a 10 or so minute drive to reach the farthest parts of Back Bay.
Downtown
Downtown is Boston’s largest commercial district. Downtown there is more new construction and high rise housing compared to the South End. There are many ways to commute Downtown and the best way varies based on preference. Depending on your exact destination Downtown, the walk ranges from 15 minutes to 50 minutes. The walk is scenic and full of site-seeing. You won’t be walking in the middle of nowhere. You can also get Downtown by taking the Orange Line from Back Bay or the Green Line from Copley. Downtown is a 10 minute drive and getting a ride sharing service is easy. Some parts of Downtown are closer to The Upton than others, like Boston Commons which is a 20 minute walk.
Fenway/Kenmore
Guests commuting to Fenway but staying at The Upton can walk, drive, take public transportation there. Fenway is known for being home to Boston’s beloved Red Sox Stadium. Boston University is located on Commonwealth Avenue, a main street that runs through Fenway. Fenway is a hub for student housing and the properties are more of a mid scale tenant building without the architectural detail typical of the South End and Back Bay. Northeastern University also spills into Fenway and makes our location desirable for guest professors. We recommend staying in the Fenway neighborhood if you plan on spending the majority of your trip in exclusively in Fenway. Fenway is a quick 9 minute drive from The Upton or you can grab a Blue Bike and bike around the corner from us and bike over in 13 minutes. The walk to Fenway neighborhood is approximately 30 minutes and there are many different routes that you can take there to see different parts of Back Bay.
Back
Cambridge
Cambridge is located across the Charles River and many of our guests commute there daily. Although the walk is farther away than Back Bay or Downtown at approximately 45 minutes, the route is scenic and you can walk on a walk path alongside the water across the bridge. Guests can get to Cambridge in a quick 15 minute drive or take public transportation. Reliable daily street parking can be difficult in Cambridge so if you are driving your own car there we recommend taking this into consideration and finding a reliable garage. We have hosted many Harvard and MIT graduate students and traveling professors who commute to Cambridge for programs and classes during their short term stay.
