Underground at Ink Block is located under I-93 and is an outdoor art installation featuring murals from local street artists. The team behind Underground at Ink Block transformed an underutilized underpass below a highway into a park full of murals, bicycle paths, walkways and more to connect communities that were previously separated by the highway infrastructure. The park is located right next to the river and is perfect for scenic strolling. For more parks in the South End to visit during your stay in Boston, see here.

Located only a 10 minute walk away from The Upton, the SoWa Farmer’s Market is an outdoor market featuring a variety of local vendors offering an assortment of fresh food, farm produce, specialty goods, and more. Attending the Farmer’s Market is one of our favorite South End activities to do in the summer. The market kicks off in May and is held every Sunday. See their calendar for most up to date schedule. The farmer’s market is a great place to stock up on farm fresh weekly groceries while enjoying the warm weather.

Beacon Hill.jpg

Beacon Hill is a picturesque, historic neighborhood that has several streets in a row lined with local retail shops and restaurants. Similar to the South End, this neighborhood is full of Victorian architecture, charm, and great photo opportunities. There are so many shops to explore ranging from artisan chocolate truffles to beautiful stationary to boutique clothing shops. We always check out December Thieves, a clothing and home goods store that curates emerging brands. If your working remote or attending a graduate program during your extended stay at The Upton, definitely check out the store Gus & Ruby. This stationary store is full of beautiful craft stationary that will compliment your work from home set up and help you stay organized. If you need something to cool down from the Spring or summer heat, head to JP Licks for some great New England ice cream.
