Where to Happy Hour in the South End

Take Advantage of These Underrated South End Restaurant Specials

The South End is one of Boston’s food destinations. If you are staying at The Upton, chances are that you are on vacation or working remote. This means that you have the unique opportunity to take advantage of restaurant specials that occur during off hours, which you may not be able to do otherwise due to typical work week obligations. With a reputation for good food, the South End’s restaurant specials surround food instead of beverages.

  1. The Black Lamb

Oyster lovers rejoice, The Blank Lamb offers an oyster special that beats the standard happy hour ones. They offer 1 dollar oysters everyday until 5:00pm. If you are staying at The Upton, The Black Lamb is your neighbor and we recommend that you take advantage of this.

2. Metropolis

Every Thursday Metropolis offers “Michaela’s Thursday Dinner”, which consists of a dinner for two with an entree and sides packaged to go. We don’t know who Michaela is but we love her. The dinner changes every week and last week was lobster mac and cheese topped with Cheetos and a mixed green salad. No problem if you are ordering this alone, save the second portion for lunch or dinner the next day. Pre-order every week by Tuesday at 5pm for pickup on Thursdays between 4-8:30PM. Metropolis is also gearing up to offer more take and bake experiences where they will offer kits to make your favorites at home.

3. Aquitaine

Aquitaine’s special isn’t technically a nightly special, but it is special for this french restaurant. Aquitaine has launched two new offerings: a French Marketplace and Urban CSA. The Urban CSA features a selection of seasonal produce at local farms, eggs, cheese, and more specialty items to make your favorite dishes. Past options include sugar snap peas, wild ramps, maitake mushrooms, smoked bluefish, and hanger steaks. The Marketplace sells specialty cooking tools to elevate the dishes that you’ll be using these ingredients in.

4. Coppa

Coppa keeps their loyal customers on their toes but keeping their specials a little mysterious. Specials are not currently listed on their website (check online for most up to date), but we know that they offer them periodically. We have found that the best way to learn about them is by following their instagram account. We’ve seen Sunday suppers, square slice Thursdays, and even Mexican pop-ups.

5. Ilona

Ilona is another restaurant that should become your weekly go-to while staying at The Upton. Their specials happen at night - Tuesdays and Thursdays to be exact. On Tuesdays they offer $3 gyros all night and Thursday is Buck a Shuck with $1 Oysters all night.

6. Banyan Bar and Refuge

Besides Banyan’s expansive, beautiful outdoor seating, and delicious food, there’s another reason to go there - $1 dumplings every day from 4:00pm - 5:00pm.

7. Burro Bar

Burro Bar’s special happens during the weekend. Saturdays & Sundays starting at 11:00am until 3:00pm, Burro Bar offers an all you can eat brunch for $21 per person for 90 minutes. The brunch menu is expansive and options are broken down into tapas, tacos, and entrees. Have your papas bravas and eat them too.

8. B&G Oysters

B&G Oysters offers $2 oysters every Thursday - Sunday from 3:00pm - 5:00pm. In warmer months enjoy the oysters outside on their patio. The patio has about six tables so be sure to make reservations in advance to ensure a table outside. If you are staying at The Upton, chances are that you are on vacation or working remote. Take advantage of this happy hour that most locals will not be able to join.

9. Myers & Chang

Myers and Chang understands the struggle of trying to meal prep during the week until Friday. They are taking it off South Ender’s hands by offering a Friday Lunchbox special in meat and vegetarian options for $25. The “Meat Me for Lunch” box contains a Vietnamese Dip Bahn Mi, Chinese Chicken Salad, shrimp chips, a fortune cookie and Mint - Lime Rickey. The vegetarian option named “Got to Get Your Greens” has Ginger + Garlic Fried Rice, Edamame + Celery Slaw, a bag of sesame crisps, ginger fortune cookie, with a Mint - Lime Rickey soda on the side. This is one of the most packed lunch special that we’ve seen and we are here for it. Pre-order by Wednesday to pick up on Friday. Myers & Chang is also offering a pantry and take and bake kit options to make menu items at home.

10. The Butcher Shop

Celebrity Chef Barbra Lynch’s restaurant The Butcher Shop has a special that isn’t technically a nightly special, but, it does sound perfect for a special occasion with an intimate group. They are offering guests the opportunity to have a private dining experience in their sister space Stir, their demonstration kitchen and cookbook store located directly next door. Stir offers space for a single group to dine together. This is ideal for guests interested in dining out but who may not ready to be inside a restaurant.
