Within a five minute radius of The Upton you will find incredible Greek food, mouth-watering Italian, fresh farm produce, famous lobster rolls, the perfect cheese biscuit, and more. The South End is a food destination and The Upton’s ideal location is perfect for experiencing Boston’s food scene.

On every street there are local restaurants that offer varying cuisine and safe dining experiences indoors and outside. There are countless incredible restaurants in the South End neighborhood but we started you off with a few of our favorites below. Whether you are dining home or out, you will be surrounded by delicious food during your extended stay. B&G Oysters, 550 Tremont Street

One of a cluster of restaurants owned by James Beard Award Winner and Boston native Barbara Lynch. This restaurant has a casual local neighborhood vibe and is her take on the modern oyster bar. The menu offerings include fresh oysters from both coasts, seasonal dishes, and inspired New England classics. The Maine lobster roll is a favorite – the traditional dish is executed flawlessly.

Kava Neo-Taverna, 315 Shawmut Ave

Transport yourself to Greece in just minutes at Kava, the best Greek restaurant in all of Boston, and perfectly located in the South End just minutes away from The Upton. With authentic music playing in the background and subtle mediterranean vibes, you’ll fall in love with this local spot. Coppa, 253 Shawmut Ave

The definition of the word Coppa is a type of specialty Italian sausage. The South End restaurant name is true to the menu, which offers a modern seasonal take on meat-centric Italian style tapas, pizzas, and pastas. Barcelona Wine Bar, 525 Tremont Street

This is one of the more lively restaurants in the South End (or at least on weekend nights) and is much more than just a wine bar. They have a huge food menu consisting of Spanish style tapas. 

Picco, 513 Tremont Street

Picco was created to perfect pizza and icecream and these foods are embedded in the restaurant name. All of their ingredients are sourced from the highest quality vendors and prepared with the highest standards. Every dish has a unique and special quality. The menu has something for everyone with salads, tacos, housemade pastas, and pizzas. Their icecream is also some of the best in the South End.

Run by a mother and daughter team, Greystone serves a variety of coffee, beverages, pastries, and breakfast & lunch treats. They have a takeout window that faces the street where they accept orders and it could not be more convenient. The takeout window makes grabbing and going effortless. We have loved everything.

Flour Bakery + Café is a local Boston favorite that was started by celebrity chef Joanne Chang. Flour Bakery is bread centric and a great spot to grab breakfast or lunch when you want something on the substantial side. They offer a selection of homemade sweet pastries, savory sandwiches, and grain bowls. Their cinnamon bun with nuts is a must. They have several locations throughout Boston in addition to the South End.

In the recent years, Boston’s art scene has shifted from Newbury Street to the SoWa neighborhood and the area features over 20+ art studios, boutique stores, vintage markets & more. Fresh produce straight from local farm named Siena Farms. Their produce selection varies weekly based on the fruits and vegetables that are in season. We go there daily and recommend that you take advantage of this gem.

How to use the Roku TV:

  • Turn on TV using the remote(s). Using the Roku remote access the interface by pressing the home button. Channels are listed on the right; scroll between paid and free options. Netflix and Hulu are both paid options we provide and have direct access buttons. Use this  link for a demonstration video.

 

How to use Hulu Live:

•      The Hulu platform provides a combination of their own content, content through paid providers and live content.

•      The landing page of the website is not a guide, and highlights suggestions for programs to watch.

•      To find a particular show or network, such as Cnn, HBO, Showtime, Paramount Plus, or Cinemax you can type it into the search bar.

•      On the left hand side of the screen there is an option for live where you can access a familiar grid style listing of programming.

 

Hulu settings:

•      All the profiles function the same and you can pick any.

•      To set or remove closed captions: In the main menu on the left-hand side there is an option for settings. chose settings --> accessibility --> turn the captions on or off.

 

TV troubleshooting:

•      If the remote is not responsive it could be out of batteries. We keep spares in a storage bin under the main stairs.

•      If there is a sound delay, power Cycle Your Roku Device: For the power cycle, unplug your Roku device from its power source, wait at least 1 to 2 minutes and then plug it in again. This will reboot your device, from where the stream will start with audio and video in sync this time.

•      If the Roku interface does not turn on when the TV powers on, it is because the input source was changed on the TV set. Using the remote control, click "source" and change the source until Roku appears.

•      If the Roku says memory is full when selecting an application, it means that the cache needs to be emptied. To empty it: Hit the home button 5x (little drawing of a house in the upper right hand corner) Hit the up arrow 1x Hit the reverse arrow (next to the pause button) 2x Hit the forward fast button (on the other side of the pause) 2x The tv turns off and back on Please email us at goodvibes@theuptonboston.com if you have questions.
