Redefining Short Term Rentals in Boston

Why are our furnished short term apartments in Boston different?

The Upton varies from standard short term furnished apartments in so many ways. However, the distinguishing difference, which has resulted in all of our other differences, can be traced back to the early days of The Upton.

What would become The Upton first began in the 1980s, when Laura, an architect who had worked extensively on South End properties, identified a historic brownstone with a lot of potential. The property had evolved from a single family home to being a rooming house that was managed by the family that owned the store located downstairs, called The Upton Spa. The brownstone was one of the few in the area that had never been worked on and was totally neglected. For Laura, this was ideal. Because of the economic downfall that occurred during earlier years, many renovations of brownstones in that time period cut up historic properties and removed all of the original detailing. They no longer had original Victorian architecture and the charming historic features associated with Boston’s largest historic district. Laura decided to take on the property herself, and in turn, unknowingly committed herself to a passion project that would occupy her for years and years to come. She set up an office in the parlor level of the brownstone, and she has worked out of it ever since.

Short Term Apartments that Embody the South End Neighborhood

Laura decided to restore and preserve as much of the original architecture as possible. She approached the design of each of our seven short term apartments individually with a focus on maximizing guest comfort by being as efficient with the space as possible. She envisioned each apartment feeling light, airy, and spacious, despite their small square footage. Every single apartment detail was meticulously considered and designed. For instance, Laura designed the cabinets in the kitchen to have doors that opened by sliding mechanism, based on the observation that when you pull a cabinet door towards you, you perceive the space as tighter. No detail was overlooked. Dressers were custom designed to have extra depth and serve dual purposes as being storage and a full length mirror. Her goal wasn’t to create spaces that guests could stay in, but short term apartments that were truly livable, comfortable, and reflected the experience of living in the South End. The end result was seven different apartments with seven different furnishings that featured the amenities of hotel combined with the practicalities of a home.

A Short Term Rental Experience Like No Other

As the product of passion, our short term rental experience is not comparable to any other. Our spaces go beyond just qualifying as an accommodation, but are a reflection of the historic South End neighborhood. They also serve as a representation of Laura’s principal beliefs tied with Olivia’s taste. The Upton and overall guest experience is very personal to us and we hold ourselves to superior standards. We have the style of a boutique hotel, the features of home, and reliable support with neighborhood spirit. Passion underlies every decision that we make and sets the foundation for our differences with other short term rental properties.
