Weekend Adventures: SoWa Farmers Market

Boston Weekend Itinerary: SoWa Farmer’s Market

It was a beautiful Sunny day and we found ourselves thinking, “ah, what to do!” The answer was easy: Head to the SoWa Farmers Market.

Located only a 10 minute walk away from The Upton, the SoWa Farmers Market takes place every Sunday of September (see their calendar for most up to date schedule) in a spacious outdoor area. The SoWa market hosts a variety of rotating vendors that offer an assortment of fresh food, farm produce, specialty goods, and more. The market is tucked away on a side street in the art & design district and we found it less crowded than other famers markets in the Boston area.

The vendors we saw ranged from specialty pesto & pasta from Lara’s Cuisine, craft condiments from Tasting Counter, to meade from House Bear Brewing, and of course farm fresh produce. We grabbed some snap peas, corn, cherry tomatoes, and strawberry basil meade to pair with our fall salad and sourdough.

The SoWa Farmers Market is a great activity for when you want to do something leisurely and local with little planning required. However, do plan what you want to have for dinner ahead of time and pick up all of the produce at the market for a farm to table meal at The Upton!

SoWa stands for South of Washington Street

The location where the farmers market takes place is known as the SoWa art & design district, which is very close to the South End neighborhood. In the recent years, Boston’s art scene has shifted from Newbury Street to SoWa neighborhood and the area is full of artist studios and galleries, boutique stores, vintage shops & more. If you are interested in experiencing Boston’s art scene, we recommend looking at the SoWa calendar and checking out their monthly events. There is also a weekly vintage market and a weekly open market that celebrates local makers. In fact, we bought the beautiful historic map of Boston that hangs in our entrance way, as well as in The Upton apartment at that market!
