7 Important Considerations When Renting a Furnished short term apartment

Ensure a Successful Short Term Rental Experience

A short term rental apartment is basically a turn-key ready home and is ideal for longer term visits, work travel, and for being able to live in the heart of it all with all of the amenities of home while exploring. Here are things to consider when selecting your short term rental apartment to ensure the best experience possible, aside from making sure you like the apartment/house of course!

1.Property Safety

Will you feel safe and secure at the short term rental?

Since safety is a broad term, here are some questions to answer in order to determine how comfortable you will feel at the short term rental:

Is the property on a main street with street lights, or a side street? If you know you may end up walking home at night, this is an important factor to evaluate and could be a deciding factor between rentals.

If the property is in an apartment building, is the front door locked at all times or kept open? Every short term rental has different security protocol. At our property, the door is kept locked and guests can only enter the building with a keycard that they scan or a code that they enter into Latch.

Is there a fire escape outside of the apartment window?

2. Apartment cleanliness

Does the property’s cleaning standards meet yours?

Every property has a different cleaning protocol. We have a professional cleaning team that executes our turnovers and washes and replaces every single linen and dish ware between each reservation. Read the property reviews on Tripadvisor or Google reviews to get a sense of the cleanliness standards.

3. Proximity to preferred location

How close is the short term rental apartment to where you will be working, exploring, or visiting?

Prioritize booking an apartment in the region that you will be spending the majority of your time - unless you have a car that is. The short term rental should be relatively convenient to where you will be spending most of your time and within a 30 minute walking distance. Think long term here: it will make your trip much more seamless and reduce extra transportation costs. 20 minute Ubers add up! We suggest entering the zip code of the location into Yelp to get a feel for the neighborhood’s offerings.

4. Working remote capabilities

Is there a suitable table or desk and high speed internet to work remote?

The ability to work remote has never been more important. Confirm that there is high speed internet and a work space that meets your needs. For example, if you plan on working long days and the only spacious table has bar-stool chairs with no backs, that could be an unexpected hassle. Set yourself up for success and be comfortable. If traveling with someone else who is also working remote, consider if the room layout is conducive to a comfortable work environment for both people. Go a step further and ask the host the Wifi speed. We provide high speed 100MBPS for our guests.

5. Will I be cooking during my extended stay?

Is the kitchen suitable for my cooking needs?

Unlike hotels, short term rental apartments are equipped with a kitchen. A huge benefit! Think about how much cooking you plan on doing throughout your stay and evaluate if the kitchen is suitable for you, especially if you are booking for 1 month or longer. Make sure the appliances that are a must for you are there: consider oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, stovetop, etc. We provide a full list of our kitchen appliances and inventory and we recommend asking what is offered so that you can prepare accordingly. The ability to cook your own meals instead of relying on eating out is a game changer when traveling and helps minimize life style adjustments.

6. Support expectations

Is the host reliably reachable help?

Now more than ever, many short term furnished apartment rentals are owned by large companies with multiple locations around the nation. It is important to evaluate if the short term apartment that you are considering has reliable support for unexpected circumstances or questions in general. How timely they are in responding to your inquiry is often an indication of this. As a two person small business, we have personalized communication with every one of our guests and ensure that we are easily accessible. We provide digital resources about the property for our guests and ensure that we are available between business hours and for after hour urgent questions. Some of the instances our guests need support include parking information, misplaced keys, trash removal, facility instructions, and site seeing suggestions. We have heard stories from other guests who experienced fire alarms beeping, broken dishwashers, and more at other furnished apartments - in instances like those, reaching your host and getting a timely resolution is very important. When renting a furnished apartment, ask who the point of contact will be and how they can be reached, and if apartment resources are available.

7. Guest policy

If I want to have guests over, can I?

Rules for every property vary and guest policies are often overlooked. If you are visiting a friend and plan to have them at your apartment, make sure that the space allows guests. Properties can have guest restrictions or require approval. We strive to provide a calm and peaceful environment for our guests and only allow one guest per occupant in the apartments.
